Cammeron Batanides
live painting performance artist
When you see Cammeron Batanides behind her easel, palette and paintbrush in rhythm with the performance, you know you have found the painter. As she brings events to life on canvas, she is sharing and spreading love through art. Using rich, vibrant colors, her work elevates the art of painting to a level of empowerment and solidarity.
A native of Charlotte currently living in Wilmington, N.C., Cammeron is an internationally known fine artist and children’s book author/illustrator. Predominately working in acrylic and watercolor, her works have been featured across the United States and throughout Jamaica. She is also an art educator and is currently a teaching artist at DREAMS Center for Arts Education.
When she is not performing live or teaching, Cammeron spends most of her time working in her art studio completing commissions and studio works.
Batanides has painted several internationally renowned musicians as they have performed live at various venues. Her subjects include Jamaican Reggae artists such as Etana, Shacia Payne Marley, The Wailers (Bob Marley), Stephen Marley, along with artists of other genres such as Michael Franti & Spearhead, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, G Love & Special Sauce, and more. The list continues to grow each year.
One of 14 artists in the world chosen for a group exhibit sponsored by CBS at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in conjunction with the 2013 French Quarter Festival, Cammeron was also invited to California during that same period for a solo exhibition of her work at the legendary Los Angeles Fine Arts Building. She was the first live painter for The Wailers, and the first live painting performance artist on the USS North Carolina battleship and at Wilmington’s historic Thalian Hall’s inaugural reggae show. Locally, she has been commissioned to paint multiple public and private murals in the downtown Wilmington area, painted live at the installation of UNCW’s Chancellor, Jose V. Sartarelli, and receives consistent requests for individual commissions.
Cammeron Batanides is a living example of her art and writing. Her colorful personality, her love for music, her boisterous laugh, and her drive to succeed while sharing her love of art is contagious and empowering. She invites you to come out to her next live painting performance to not only meet the painter but be with the painter.
